We have all heard the expression.
"It's not, what you are eating! It's, what is eating you?"
This saying is a reminder that our "thought" life affects our every fibre.
There is ample evidence to show that our thinking affects our Health. Your physical health, emotional, mental and spiritual health are all affected.
How you relate to others around you as well as your relationships can also be affected.
A huge variety of illnesses and disease can be attributed to what we allow to occur with our "thought" life. They can affect not only us but others also.
There are thoughts that heal and there are thoughts that hurt.
Here are five keys to Good Emotional health and Healthy Relationships -
1. Your emotions follow right behind your thoughts, guard your mind.
Your emotions won't know whether what you are thinking is correct or not. Our mind or thoughts can be a little askew sometimes. Your emotions will simply follow the thoughts that you have. Emotions can't discern between reality or imaginings.
We can prove this to ourself by thinking back to the last terrifying scene we saw on a television show or in a movie. Even though we knew that it wasn't real we still got scared - right? It wasn't true but our emotions followed our thoughts.
We are what we eat - both physically and mentally. We need to pay very close attention to what we are feeding our mind. The television shows, the books, movies, newspapers and even the internet. All of this "input" enters our lives, our souls, our heart and becomes a part of us.
So - what's eating you? Check out your feelings and then ask yourself this question "What have I been thinking lately, what have I been taking in?"
2. Learn to develop a cheerful attitude toward life.
Stuff happens in life, it can be painful, but it is possible to overcome. Sometimes we need time but sometimes we just need to make a decision to move on.
Choose to be a happy and cheerful person, as much as possible. Happiness is contagious.
A Positive attitude is a Healthier attitude. There is enough evidence to show that relaxed, happy people are less prone to illnesses and disease than stressed, unhappy and anxious people.
3. Deal with stress as an opportunity to grow.
Stress can be a killer. We all deal with stress differently. People who don't cope with stressful events well seem to get sick more often. Some people take stress in their stride. Yet other people seem to thrive on stress. This tends to show that the problem is not stress itself, it is more about how we deal with it.
It is not unusual for most of us to think and feel "Oh, no, I don't want to have to go through this again or whatever..............." but it is a matter of how long we stay in that place for.
Stressful situations seem to cause increased illnesses in those who consider themselves to be victims and who react with anxiety and frustration. Others see stressful situations as opportunities to overcome. So, how long are you going to stay in that place for. Choose the positive approach.
4. Make and have the right friends.
Select people who are cheerful instead of depressed for the majority of your friends.
Emotions can be transferred almost by osmosis. Well, for those who know biology, it is probably more ex-osmosis - they suck the life and the joy out of you! There is a Scripture and its loose translation is "Hang out with dorks and you'll become a dork" OK, so that's a very loose translation but you get the drift.
We need a positive social life that includes friends, family, social groups, churches etc that have a good and uplifting impact on us. Those who have satisfying and fulfilled social lives enjoy i better health.
5. Let the wisdom from the world's greatest book be an inspiration to you.
"Above all else, Gaurd Your Heart, for it is the Wellspring of Life" (Proverbs 4:23 NIV)
Do You Want to Catapult your Health? If So, What is eating You? Stop letting what's eating you hurt you and begin to enjoy life in a brand new way.
